Types of Data We Collect
Website Cookies:
Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. They are also used to help us understand your preferences based on previous or current site activity, which enables us to provide you with improved services. For example, by allowing cookies, our website may remember the name you used to comment on a blog post to save you having to type it again. This applies to all fields of submission across the website. The search and directory portion of the website may also remember previous searches for you or preferences of selection previously chosen. We also use cookies to help us compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future. By clicking any link on the site, a visitor is consenting to our storage of cookies. By default, cookies are only stored for up to 30 days and are automatically removed after that.
Strictly Necessary Cookie should be enabled at all times so that we can save your preferences for cookie settings.
This website also uses cookies that can’t be disabled through the cookie settings on our cookie notification bar and will need to be disabled manually. The blog itself uses a commenting system by wpDiscuz which uses a cookie to remember some of the information you put in to save you inputting it every time. It also helps prevent comment spam.
The blog may also feature embedded items such as youtube videos which can set cookies to identify your device and approximate location to optimize bandwith and tailor ads as handled by google.
Our Directory also sets some cookies for the Map to function based on your selection and preferences.
Unfortunately the scripts for these features cannot be placed here for you to disallow the cookies manually, therefore the button on this tab will have no affect.
However if you wish to disable these cookie, you will need to disallow them manually in your browser.

Google Analytics:
When someone visits our website we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.
Blog Comments:
Our WordPress based blog contains posts that visitors are able to comment on including reply to other comments. Every comment collects several parts of data from the visitor. A Name and Email address are required to comment, but only the name is shown publically on the comment. The Website Address field is optional, but if included, will be added as a text link to the comment poster’s name. When visitors click on the name of a commenter, they will be taken to the website included in the comment form submission if one was added. (As external links are out of our control, we advise that you only click on comment poster names at your own discretion. If you find any comment, user, or external link to be offensive, inappropriate or spam and would like to report it, you can contact us via the contact form on the contact page of this website.)
To post a comment or reply also requires consent from the visitor by checking a consent confirmation button / checkbox before the submission can be sent. By consenting, you are formally acknowledging that you have read this Privacy Policy and are giving full consent to the collection, handling and storage of that data as outlined here.
To provide more features for discussion threads on our blog, we use the highly popular, and well-reviewed commenting plugin ‘wpdiscuz’. This plugin integrated directly with the native WordPress commenting system and so all submitted data is only stored within our databases. This data includes Names, Email and Website Addresses as mentioned above, but the system also logs visitor IP Addresses as is standard with the WordPress blogging system. The IP addresses are only viewable by our Admin and not visible to the public. This data is required to help prevent spam and maintain discussion threads. As default, every comment submitted also logs data and time of submission alongside the comment itself.
As a comment can only be submitted by ticking the consent button, consent is automatically proven for all comments posted and logged. You should be able to edit or delete a comment you have made from a device with the same IP address on the front end, but it is your right to withdraw consent and request or remove your data at any time. If you are unable to do this from your side, then you can contact us via the contact form on our contact page and we will be able to do this for you.
Directory Reviews:
A review submission stores data similar to that of the commenting system above to which much of the same applies. To leave a review we require your Name, Email, a Title for the Review and the Review itself. A website address is optional but will be made public with the name and review. The email address is only viewable by admin. The review system also offers the option to upload images relevant to the review itself. These are stored in our system and database along with everything else but are made public on the specific review you have posted it to.
As a review can only be submitted by ticking the consent button, consent is automatically proven for all reviews posted and logged. You may not be able to remove or edit a review on the front end but it is your right to withdraw consent and request or remove your data at any time. If you are unable to do this from your side, then you can contact us via the contact form on our contact page and we will be able to do this for you.
Directory Listings:
The content of the listings themselves contain information related to specific companies. This information is not collected by visitors in anyway and is only manually input by admin as approved by The Good Funeral Guide. These companies have been given direct recommendation from The Good Funeral Guide and have agreed to share the information listed on our directory. If for any reason you find information to be incorrect, inappropriate or offensive in anyway, either as a visitor or by association of one of the companies listed, then please contact us via the contact form on the contact page.
Contact Form:
Our Contact Form on the Contact Page, requires Name, Email and Phone information alongside a message. Any data you submit through this contact form is not visible to other visitors or shared with anyone other than the necessary recipients within The Good Funeral Guide administration. The Good Funeral Guide website does not log or store contact form submissions. The website acts as a middle man to forward submissions to the administrative email account responsible for handling contact form correspondence. As a contact form submission can only be sent by ticking the consent button, consent of handling that data is automatically proven.
Accreditation Application Form:
To apply for Accreditation, visitors are provided a link to an only PDF form for submission. Please note, whilst the information sent with this form goes directly to our admin including correspondence through fran.hall@goodfuneralguide.co.uk, this is an external link with a form not hosted on this website. We use a popular third party platform called SeamlessDocs (more info here: https://seamlessdocs.com/) to digitize our PDF forms. The handling of their data is detailed in their privacy policy, but nothing submitted within our forms are handled or stored through goodfuneralguide.co.uk. So if you have any concerns regarding this particular form, or you wish to have any information submitted through this form altered or removed, then you can request this by contacting Fran via fran.hall@goodfuneralguide.co.uk who is the designated data controller of this form.
