Great song by a young singer/ songwriter called Frank Turner. Says it all really.
Eulogy
Not everyone grows up to be an astronaut,
Not everyone was born to be a king,
Not everyone can be Freddie Mercury,
But everyone can raise a glass and sing:
Well I haven’t always been a perfect person,
And I haven’t done what mum and dad had dreamed,
But on the day I die I’ll say “At least I fucking tried”,
And that’s the only Eulogy I need.

Anything sung with such gusto gets my vote. I loved this.
Yesterday’s funeral for a 41 -year old woman, church full, posh dad welcomes the grieving folks from the pulpit with arms flung wide booming ” hello” . Polite ripple and murmur in response; again (louder) he hollers “HELLO” and finally we are roused to (mostly all) shout back ‘hello’.
Now the funeral is ready to rock.
A song such as this might replace such cohones.

I remember the time I nearly fell off my chair at the back of the crem, when my mentee at the front – on her first funeral, said ‘Good afternoon everyone’ and they all said ‘Good afternoon’ back!! She must have had that ‘teacher’s’ voice!
