A true artist. He was not only the creator of the immortal Molesworth, as any fule kno, but a witness to the prison camp at Changi, in Singapore, where he risked his life daily to record in secret the conditions under which the Japanese occupiers kept their prisoners. I walk past my collection of his books every morning and feel I’m greeting people I grew up with, so he’s very much still around. I don’t know who’ll break the news to Peason, Molesworth 2 and Fotherington-Thomas….no wonder the skool dog is looking even grumpier than usual.
