Funeral Director/s: Geoff Thorne Dip FD, MBIE. Born to be a funeral director like his father, who "came to it only be accident." Refreshingly forward thinking and aware of clients' changing expectations. Has seen many changes in recent years. "My attitude is to meet and embrace them head on." One other funeral director here, Geoff's assistant Simon. When not at work Geoff likes target shooting, historical re-enactments and watching TV.
Specific Gravity: Tradition means a great deal to Geoff, and his turnout for a formal funeral is as smart as anyone's. "But if a family wants me to dress in casual or even gardening clothes then their wish is my command." Exceedingly smart fleet of vehicles because "I am a self-confessed car-aholic!" Will gladly source any alternative to the traditional hearse and limousines that you prefer.
What’s important? For Geoff the most important thing is that a funeral director loves his or her profession. "I like to listen to people and help them, and see them through a difficult time." There is no doubting Geoff's strong sense of vocation.
What’s different? "I will jump through many hoops to get what my clients want even if it makes me a bit unpopular with the authorities."
Services: Your call will be answered by Geoff, his wife, one of his sons, his assistant, Simon, or his secretary, Sue. “My phone is answered by a human voice, not an answerphone.” He might have added that it is not answered by a call centre, either, as at least one big chain does. You will be looked after throughout, as far as possible, by either Geoff or Simon – illness and holidays permitting. Geoff is a Member of the British Institute of Embalmers and is a believer in embalming, especially on health and safety grounds. Same sex person to wash and dress the person who has died it you wish. Happy for you to come in and do this yourself. Yes to home visit. Yes to supporting those who wish to care for their dead at home in a consultative capacity. Good secular celebrants on his books. Remarks: A very nice, decent funeral director who really will be there for you all the way through. The degree of personal service Geoff offers his clients is outstanding.
