Funeral Director/s: Mr Eddy Dorman Dip FD (50s). Mild mannered with a ready smile. A gentleman of the old sort. When Eddy's predecessor was forced to retire due to his age (he was 85) he chose Eddy to be the one to carry on the business, just as he in turn had been handpicked by his predecessor, thus maintaining 150 years of unbroken service to the local community. His wealth of experience told him that Eddys temperament was well suited to becoming a funeral director and his instincts were not wrong. Out of death interests include caravanning, meals out with friends and the occasional meal in with a Chinese takeaway. Two other funeral conductors: Paul and Marc.
Specific Gravity: Old school in the best and nicest sense of the term. Eddy is proud of his Dip FD because he's intent on getting it right - because "I believe it's important that funeral directors are trained to a high standard." Has also received bereavement awareness training. He's proud of his 5 generations-old business. Favours full fig, dresswise: top hat, tails, striped trousers. But he'll gladly do something more downbeat if that's what you prefer. Beautifully turned out hearse and limousines - but he'll gladly downsize to something less showy if that's what you want. Will always conscientiously sit in on the funeral ceremony - unless you wish him not to.
What’s important? All the best virtues of the best sort of independent funeral director. Meticulous attention to detail. He's a very good listener and does, genuinely, "put the needs of the family above everything else." So he gives you all the time you need and explores your options carefully. He is also terrifically respectful and modest, a trait not always to be found in a funeral director. So far as his own role goes, he's a believer in "minimum fuss". Both Eddy and his experienced crew are steeped in funeral service and will gladly go all the extra miles they need to get it right for you. Eddy derives most of his job satisfaction from helping people through difficult times.
What’s different? Integrity to a pre-eminent degree. That and gentleness. Eddy's kindness and care behind the scenes say it all about him. He really is tremendously respectful both in public and when no one is watching. Welcomes the trend for greater family input to the planning of a funeral.
Services: Your call will be answered by Eddy or Jean Dorman, possibly by Joyce Burrows. Eddy will look after you throughout and, if your funeral is to be conducted on the day by Paul or Marc, he will introduce you in good time. Will visit you at home if you wish. Caters happily for all ethnic groups, and has experience. Same sex FD to lay out the body if you wish. Come in and help if you like, but be sure to ask for this. Eddy is happy to work with home funeralists. Will only request to embalm in very rare cases. Excellent secular celebrant on his books, Marc Oxley MICF, FSBP.
Remarks: Always decorates the edge of a grave with fresh flowers, and places a single red rose on the coffin so that, when it is lowered, it is not stark and bare. These are the sorts of touches you can expect from Eddy. It's not a matter of routine for him. He's seen it all before, but that's never the impression he gives. That's rare. He comes fresh to every funeral.
