Funeral Director/s: Andrew Patey, Dip FD, Dip FM, LMBIFD(50s). Trained with the Co-op when a recession did for his car hire business. Never looked back. Left the Co-op in '97 and joined this still-young business. Rapidly rose to the top, has been a director since '05 had has autonomy. Bright-eyed, energetic, jolly nice. In the land of the living enjoys theatre, movies, medieval and Tudor history, and real ale. Keeps fit, loves his sport, supports Arsenal. Philip Reynolds Dip FD LMBIFD. Young (mid 20’s) with boyish good looks. Joined the business in 2003. Helpful manner, bags of youthful enthusiasm. Keen to embrace alternative funeral requests but happy to provide tradition when this is required. Supports Tottenham Hotspur football club which makes for interesting conversations with his boss.
Specific Gravity: Decided weakness for traditional attire, which he carries off with style and panache. "He conducted out funeral with quiet flourish and much dignity." Will happily dress down. Staff have black suits, but will distract from this with colourful ties and/or buttonholes.
What’s important? Passionate about training for everyone and professionalism in all they do. Says "A funeral is not just an exercise, it's an emotional journey." Intelligently sympathetic: "He is a remarkably good listener; he showed a very good sense of what we wanted."
What’s different? Andrew is a trained secular celebrant and member of the Institute of Civil Celebrants, so he can create and lead your funeral ceremony if you want a non- or semi-religious funeral. Innovative. Learnt early on when he was asked to bury a body in a garden (no one else would touch it) that "if you can be bothered you'll always have business." Perks up at the prospect of anything out of the ordinary. Keen to forge relationships with local minority ethnic communities.
Services: Your call will be answered during office hours by Ann Claridge or Sarah-Jane Aalbregt, at other times by Andrew or Philip. The first FD you meet will look after you throughout. Yes to home visits. Yes to coming in and laying out the body. Very happy to advise home funeralists and sell them a coffin. Same sex FD to lay out the body. Mercedes hearse and limousine.
Remarks: The only independent funeral service in Cambridge. Down-to-earth, businesslike and emotionally intelligent, dedicated to creating a funeral which is ‘simple, dignified and beautiful’."He made us aware of the choices and never pressed us to spend more than we wanted."
