Funeral Director/s: Andrew Bingham (40s). He’s always wanted to be a funeral director and always has been. Formally trained and the holder of a Dip FD. Strong believer in training and thinks all FDs ought to be qualified in order to maintain highest standards of professionalism. Out of death interests include his family (wife Heidi and two small children), old cars and football. He’s a Leader with the local Boys Brigade. Attended a Cruse course, holds bereavement awareness training for local nurses. Speaks to WI groups.
Specific Gravity: A traditionalist, an upholder of values and standards but not stern and straitlaced. Favours morning coat and pinstripe trousers, but will notch down to something less formal if you wish. Personable, a good listener.
What’s important? In addition to professionalism, Andrew prides himself on turnout in all respects: premises, dress and meticulously maintained funeral vehicles. He’s a very safe pair of hands in all respects. He says: “As a funeral director I believe that it is our duty to help and guide families on all aspects of the funeral. We are there to help and give ideas but not to make the decision for them.” Also: “More and more choices are available today with people coming up with more and more different ideas all the time. We strive to keep ahead of the market and adapting to meet clients varied demands.”

Services: Your first call will be answered by Andrew, Heidi, Heidi’s sister Becky or by James Steed. Experienced in the needs of ethnic minorities. You will deal with Andrew all the way through. “This we believe is a major advantage of being an independent family business.” Will come and see you at home. Same sex FD to lay out the body of the person who has died if you wish. Yes to coming in and laying out the body. Andrew is a qualified embalmer and will offer embalming if he thinks that this will enhance your visit to the person who has died in the chapel of rest. Can put you in touch with very good local celebrants (who rate him extremely highly). “More than happy” to act as consultant to home funeralists, and has done so. An outstanding and imaginative service offered by Andrew is his weekly bereavement friendship group where people can meet and chat to others who are going through the same experience over a cup of tea or coffee. Well attended and highly valued. Good website. Ample free parking at he funeral home.
Remarks: A brave new business. Andrew is finely attuned to what people want and works hard to give them that. Utterly dependable and a very nice person to boot.
