A gem of a coffin

As an admirer of mid-20^th century Scandinavian furniture, I was interested to learn that Danish design company Jacob Jensen is collaborating with the country’s largest funeral directors, Tomerup Kister, to lay to rest the faux-brass kitschness of so many traditional coffins. 

The companies have produced the Diamant coffin and urn range inspired by gem-cutting and built in sustainable Nordic birch with a white or black, matt or gloss finish. Inside, conventional silk upholstery is replaced with a simple fabric pattern inspired by reeds. 

Examples are pictured here along with a handsome 1950s credenza which, coincidentally, looks a bit like a coffin, too.
