Very catchy! I think it’s very appropriate. Two academics (can’t remember their names) did a survey in a school in England a few years ago and the majority of children (8-13 year olds I think) would have liked death education at school.
H’mm, well the trouble with demurring from the praises is that I risk being told I’m against talking to kids about death. Not so – the reverse – but I don’t especially like the song, sorry. The questions that children ask about death have a power and a simplicity which this jingly sort of song rather drowns out. Except the bit where the child says I don’t mind if you don’t know, I need to ask anyway – that’s more like it. But the jokey stuff isn’t where I’d like it to go. I think I’m with GM here. I think I might use it as a starter with a class but as a way into attitudes around talking about death. It certainly has a place, I think…but like GM I worry that it might be a little trite…especially given that its main purpose it to persuade us to take children and their concerns about death seriously!
