Saying goodbye to Dad

A lot of people would reckon this song mawkish and sentimental and, of course, in their own terms, they’d be right. But for a great many other people, this would make an excellent funeral song. Luther Vandross wrote it from his own experience of his father’s death when he (Luther) was seven.

Even if you don’t like it, it’s got plenty of blast from the past power.

Here’s an alternative.

I liked both these songs for the simple honesty of their grief and their yearning.

Yes, embarrassing/cheesy somehow, but worth trying to publicly remember our fathers and attempting to recapture some early sweetness?

Dance With My Father is very popular, especially the versions sung by female singers (like Tamyra Gray)when chosen by daughters.

I’ve told my good lady that I want to go through the curtains to Les Paul & Mary Ford doing Bye Bye Blues.
