Seeing a Basquiat is like looking at the original watercolours of the early Joan Miro in the ‘Constellation’ series – Beautiful little gems that make you think, ‘I can do that’ but when you go home and try to lift a pencil above the paper you know that it will always be a copy and still is there an elusive aesthetic in the work that is that mysterious combination of consciousness,hand and eye.
